Celebration

Well done Laaibah and Yi Fan who received certificates at the Kauri Whanau assembly on Friday. They are both learning and using new strategies to help solve maths problems.

Maths

On Friday, we learned a new maths game. It involves thinking and strategy. With 10 items, the object of the game is for each of the two players to take away one or two items at a time. The winner is the player who doesn't have to take the last item.

We played against different people in the class. Some students found a strategy that helped them win.

Celebration

Congratulations to Srinitha who received a certificate at the school assembly for demonstrating Mana through her mature behaviour, helpfulness and kindness to others. #SHINE #GEMS

Mandarin

On Monday, we learned and practised some phrases in Mandarin with Miss Han, our Mandarin teacher. The class sang some songs and played some games to help us learn and remember.

Te Reo

With Mrs Harding, we learned and practised some basic words and phrases in Maori. In these photos, we are learning words for different foods.

Magnetic Tape

Room 17 needs to buy some magnetic tape to keep our activity labels on the board. If we have 30 labels and need 15cm of tape for each label, how much magnetic tape do we need? If a roll of tape is 2.1m long, how many rolls do we need? If each roll costs $17.38, how much will it cost?

There are lots of ways to try and work this out.

Fingerprints

We read an article in a Journal about fingerprints. We found out that all fingerprints are unique, which means no two people have the same fingerprints. We found out lots of other facts from the text. We experimented with making our own fingerprints on a whiteboard.

At the School Assembly on Friday Shreya received a Mana certificate for her outstanding manners, behaviour and helpfulness. Well done, Shreya. Keep up the awesome effort!

Assembly

On Friday at the School Assembly Alex played the piano. He told us that he has been playing the piano for three years and practises for two hours every day. Wow! We could hear that all that practise is paying off. He played beautifully.
